The Joint Services Transcript (JST) is an official, synchronized document that provides a description of military schooling and work history in terminology relevant to colleges and universities. It is the primary tool used by the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard to document a servicemembers professional military career for colleges and universities.
The JST is a free resource. Servicemembers can log into the official JST portal to view their unofficial transcript or request that an official, verified copy be sent directly to their chosen institution.
What information is included?
The JST is designed to be scannable for admissions officers and registrars. It typically includes:
- Military Course Completions: All training courses evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE)
- Military Occupations: Documentation of MOS (Army/Marines) or Ratings (Navy/Coast Guard) held, including time in grade
- College-Level Test Scores: Results from exams such as CLEP, DSST, and DLPT
- Other Learning Experiences: Relevant certifications and specialized training
ACE Credit Recommendations
A critical feature of the JST is the inclusion of ACE credit recommendations. These recommendations are developed by faculty teams who evaluate military training to determine its equivalence to college-level learning.
- Academic Alignment: ACE credit recommendations include suggested semester hours and subject areas (e.g., 3 semester hours in Logistics Management)
- Standardization: These recommendations help institutions award Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) consistently across different branches of service.
How to Use Your JST
Your JST is available free of charge and can be requested as many times as needed. Present it to:
- Colleges and universities during the admissions process to request credit for prior learning
- Employers to demonstrate your qualifications and training
- Certification boards when pursuing professional credentials
Each institution makes its own decisions about accepting military credit, so always check with the registrar or admissions office about their specific policies.
